Coffee Machines

Also named a coffee maker, percolator, or caffettiera, it's device that uses a glass pot used to brew coffee. The technology of the basic coffee machine has altered over the years, percolators were the orginal, some state still the best and worked by boiling water under extreme pressure. Then the automatic drip maker was released which was much cheaper. Currently the most popular coffee makers use a filter system, which consists of a water tank, filter and coffee jug for the filtered coffee to stand in, and usually a warming plate for the jug. Some of the added features you should look for are, water filtration, digital timer, automatic shutoff and permanent filters.

For espresso machines there are two main types, pump machines and steam machines. The quality of both machines is desiginated by the bar pressure level, the higher the better. The pump machine is the most intense of the two and works by forcing the correctly heated coffee through an internal pump (obviously), costing more than steam machines they produce better tasting coffee and produce a creamy foam unlike steam machine. The only real advantage of a steam machine is the price, they are less expensive and lacks the full flavour of the coffee bean.

You can now also find combination coffee makers which produce coffee, espresso and cappuccino as well.
