Home > Fridge FreezersThe refrigerator or "fridge" for short is a mechanical appliance found in just about every home. It's primary purpose is for preserving and storing of perishable food. You can get stand alone fridges which just cool foods like vegetables, and stand alone freezers for freezing foods for long periods of time. But the most popular item is a fridge freezer which does both via two compartments. The first Practical household refrigerators were introduced in the 1920s, but present day many fridge freezers are divided into four zones, 18 °C (freezer), 0 °C (meats), 4 °C (refrigerator) and 10 °C (vegetables). The size / capacity of a refrigerator is measured in Europe by litres and in the US as cubic feet. The typical fridge freezer is split into two main compartments with an average volume of around 100 litres for the freezer and 140 litres for the fridge. Common present day features are an indoor ice caddie for the freezer, frost-free operation, an LCD, power failure warning and filter status |
