Microwaves

The microwave oven has become one of the common kitchen appliances since it's introduction in the 1970's. The price has lowered since then so that any household can afford one. It works be employing microwave radiation to cook or heat food at a fast rate of time. The use of microwave radiation to cook food was discovered by Percy Spencer. It occurred by chance while he working on another invention and he noticed a chocolate bar had melted in his pocket. The led him to experiment with deliberately cooking all sorts of food with with microwaves (popcorn being the first). The only safety concern with microwave ovens is their ability to heat foot for so short a time that it is cooked unevenly, on occasion the time spent can only allow microwaves to penetrate to a limited depth. This can of course lead to bacterial contamination which results in food borne illness. Presently there are three different types of microwaves, a standard microwave oven which will allow you to cook by microwave only. Then there is a standard microwave with grill which can also be used exclusively as a grill. Thirdly there is a combination oven which features a grill and a conventional hot-air oven. The size of a microwave is measured in cu.ft and the power output is measured in watts and standardised by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The wattage usually ranges from 600-1100. Of course the higher the wattage, the quicker the food will cook.
