The electric toaster is a small, usually low cost and simple kitchen appliance which is designed to toast bread. The basic modern toasters typically contains two slots where the sliced bread is inserted, a timer which decides the toasting cycle, heating elements, crumb tray and a switch to pop the bread up and down. Toasters are such a simple device few extras are needed or included, currently the most technically advanced toasters feature digital controls for more accurate toasting, frozen bread setting and variable browning controls. The price differences are usually decided by build quality, with quality brands like Duality using stainless steal and promising components which will extend the operating life of the toaster. Alongside build quality it's a good idea to purchase a toaster which features deep wide slots for the bread, a high lift facility so it's easier to insert and remove bread from the toaster, a high wattage / speed heating element to reduce toasting time and a toaster that features 4 or 6 slice slots. Safety is also a critically important aspect of any toaster, poorly designed toasters sometimes feature a body which can become extremely hot and can in worst case scenario cause burning injuries.
