Home > Tumble DryersA tumble dryer is a simple yet popular household appliance which compliments a washing machine. Of course after a washing machine has finished cleaning clothes / textiles they need to be dried. This can be simply done by hanging the items outside to be dried by the wind, but this can be time consuming and due to the UK whether risky. The tumble drier is a machine that aimed/aims to remove the moisture from clothing in a generally shortly space of time than hanging them outside. And for those living in flats or places with no space to hang clothes it's usefulness is two fold. The technology of the tumble dryer has altered little of the years, like a washing machine it uses a rotating drum but circulates hot air throughout it. This makes sure the moisture is removed from fabrics through a simple system of evaporation. The drum can be rotated at different speeds to increase the drying time. A basic dryer will be a unidirectional model which can only rotate in one direction, there are reverse models which can rotates in both directions to help prevent creases in fabrics, a sensor dryer is able to automatically stop when fabrics have reached a level of dryness (saves on power), and the top of the line is a multi-programme dryer which offers all the aforementioned methods and a system to avoid "creases" and take care of "woollens". Dryers can also be powered by either gas or electric, and commonly use either a 'vented' or 'condenser' design. A 'vented' dryer uses a hose to expel the hot air through a vent of an outside wall, whereas a 'condenser' dryer requires no vent and instead uses steam to dry the clothes. |
