After having so-so results from a range of high powered compact cameras I decided to got back to a big good ole SLR, and since November last year the quality of my photographs has been wonderful. I paid around £300 for my EOS 300 and after reading good things about this model and Canon in general took the plunge.

My local Jessops shop also included a 28-80mm zoom lens in the package. The shop assistant said the camera was a joy to use because he owned one. And to date I cannot disagree with him because I am no experienced photographer. I am little more than a beginner, and only use the automatic option for taking any snap. The autofocus and 35-zone metering means that when the automatic option is chosen the picture will be exposed correctly. This has meant great snap after snap, the only poor picture I've taken is when I over rode the automatic option and tried to use my own ability to take a picture.

For the photographic expert everything does not need to be "automatic", you can set every feature manually. And you can preview any angle with the viewfinder.

Despite it's size the camera is not as heavy as it looks, in fact it's pleasantly light. The buttons are quite small however so those with large fingers and hands may find it hard to operate.

In summary I could not be happier with my purchase, I am sure my EOS 300 will grow on me more and more as my photographic interest continues to expand.
