I've gone through quite a few scanners over the past decade, they
seem a device susceptible to conk out on a regular basis in my experience.
So I decided to take out a long term warranty on my next one and
buy a sturdy one. I run my own ebay business selling babies clothes
and toys so I am scanning everyday for long periods of time. I primarily
use it for scanning baby clothes and toys I put on the ebay website
and the to-date it produces the best detail of any scanner I've
owned to-date. The quality it picks up is amazing and I always need
to lower the quality of the scanned image so it will load quicker.
Epson has also down a good job with bundled software program that
comes with it. I am sure any novice like myself will easily get
up and running and use all the great features. You can easily zoom
in on images to show customer the fine details of clothes materials.
With the automatic mode it takes all the work out of scanning, the
perfection of the 3490 is clearly displayed was it evaluates what
is being scanned and then automatically chooses the recommended
settings, whether for photos or text documents, it does all the
work.
The only criticism I can level at the perfection is the lack of
an off switch. This means I have to always switch off everything
at the mains plug when I turn off my computer, which gets frustrating.
