The word laptop comes from the fact that it's capable and small enough to fit on your lap and work from. Laptop computers are especially useful for people who travel while working, they can now transfer data to the head office from a train or obscure location. The only snag with laptops is they are usually more expensive then an average desktop computer, and usually contain less powerful and inferior components. On the plus side you can find discount laptops from as little as £400.00, but the power of these machines is probably the same as a two or three year old desktop. You can expect your basic laptop to include the following; a hard disk, 256 - 512mb of memory, processor, 14 inch screen, battery, motherboard, built-in motherboard sound card, built-in motherboard video card, combined CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive and a 1 year warranty. Wireless modems are also becoming a standard feature, and are essential for those working away from the office. Most experts believe a typical laptop is 20%-30% slower than a desktop of the same price, due to the fact laptops are more difficult to design and manufacture. Articles |
