For a month long period of time PC World in their infinite wisdom
decided to give away a laptop computer to every customer which signed
up to Orange broadband. Then the offer abruptly ended.
It has left quite a few people disappointed, the initial press
release stated there would be thousands upon thousands of laptops
available. PC World did claim all these laptops had gone, so they
needed to stop the offer. However, it has left some people questioning
whether it was just a cynical publicity stunt.
To counter these claims a PC World spokesperson insisted the offer
was a genuine mistake, and ultimately an expensive one.
However, all is not lost, a new offer has been promoted from August
31st. New Orange subscribers can now save between £200-£330
off selected laptops and desktops. For example, you can currently
save £289.99 off a Compaq Celeron M laptop, and a whopping
£358.98 off an Acer Intel core 2 duo laptop.
The rub of the green is your stuck with Orange broadband. It's
difficult to gage the quality of the service at this early date.
A download limit of 2GB, and download of 2MB for £14.99 per
month is far from appealing. For example, Bulldog
provide up to 16 meg speed broadband from £9.75 per month

I would be particularly weary of Orange broadband, I am sure they
were blasted in a BBC watchdog survey. My work relays quite heavily
on my broadband, I would not risk it for a crappy ISP service. Not
even for a free laptop. I have been with AOL for 3 years and use
it all day long, never had a single problem with them. At the same
time AOL have responded with a very similar deal in connection with
Carphone Warehouse. The laptop has a slightly better spec as well.
Check that out!
