Carphone Warehouse cause a stir with laptop giveaway |

Date added - 06/09/07 Reports have suggested the police were called in to quell a storm as customers battled over a free giveaway laptop. In one southern town a rumour circulated that the laptops had been hidden locally near the shop. This caused bushes and benches to be upturned in a frantic search. Carphone Warehouse had tempted customers by offering a free Dell laptop (valued around £400) for those who signed a two year contract for AOL Broadband (£19.99 a month). This was in response to PC World offering a similar deal for customers signing upto an Orange broadband package. In 2006 Carphone Warehouse won a takeover battle to buy AOL UK, which is currently the UK's third-largest Internet service provider. The takeover cost in the region of £370m. Before you signup for the deal you should use the AOL site to make sure your postcode can support the service. Second step is to make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements 1. At least 128MB system memory (RAM) I am pretty sure every PC is upto this spec. AOL did previously have a bronze, silver and gold package. Usually with 500mb, 1GB and 4GB speeds respectively. Pricing from £19.99, £24.99 and £29.99. I am a current AOL member, I've been looking into changing my price plan. I pay £24.99 per month, and I am only getting like 1GB speed per month for this money, which seems a rip off. I have used the 'pricing' keyword as suggested in the AOL software, but it's very hazy on showing me any other price plans, and how I can go about changing it. All I get is an advert page saying get AOL wireless for £14.99 per month, and 8GB speed. I am paying alot more for alot less, and I am quite angry AOL have not updated my package automatically.
