Technical Details: 50 inch screen, 1024x768 pixel res, 1500
cd/m2 brightness, XD Engine picture enhancement, 15000:1 contrast
ratio, 20 watts audio output.
Features: XD Engine picture enhancement, Eight days electronic
programme guide
Pros: The *Piano Black* casing surround is stylish, the
same goes for the curved rear. The speakers are placed below the
screen, instead of the side, this help cuts down the width dimensions
of the set. It produces rich and deep blacks (considering the price),
alongside a high contrast ratio, the colours produced feel realistic,
and produce truthful facial features and skin tones. The XD engine
handles fast moving scenes with aplomb, other challenging scenes
like mist and fog are likewise halo free.
Cons: Like with a Toshiba rear projection TV I owned there
is no On/Off switch. With that set it actually malfunctioned because
of this simple omission. So you will either have to switch it off
at the plug, or just leave the juice flowing on standby. I have
read reports of image retention, which could indicate a long-term
image burn issue. This could be the result of owners being unaware
that you should use plasmas with a reduced contrast and brightness
setting for the first 100-200 hours.
Verdict: The looks are glamorous, the price is tiny considering
it's a 50 inch screen. It's features are good, by no means class
leading. There are better options out there, but they will cost
more.
