I was first introduced to DVD's when I first bought an X-box machine
from Microsoft. It didn't quite come upto scratch, and for some
DVD's like 'Nixon' it could not actually play them, it started freezing
and stop and starting. It was at this point that I had bought quite
a few DVD's but had a substandard machine to play them on.
I therefore decided to upgrade, I strolled into my local Curry
superstore with the idea of purchasing a basic dvd player. Funnily
enough I soon dropped this idea when I wandered into their entertainment
section and saw all the massive TV's playing through cinema systems.
At this point I had no idea what a home cinema system was, so inquired
about it to a staff assistant. She explained all the basics, and
I soon thought I could improve not only my visual but audio quality
by using a surround sound system, and even better was that my X-box
supported Dolby digital and could use the new system as well.
My current TV was a Sony so I picked this brand again, the assistant
promised the DAV-SA30 would support everything, and she was right.
Setting it all up wasn't simple, but the DVD visuals were amazing
and much better than on my X-box. What really blew me away was the
sound quality, simple incredible, especially when I put Lord of
the Rings in for the first time.
A few of the downsides are, the amount of plugs it uses, 3 for
the dvd player, AV receiver and subwoofer. All the wires for the
speakers can become a real pain after a few years. They become crazily
tangled and impossible to keep tidy.
But overall its been great value for money, one of my better buys.
