Engineered to perfection.
RMS output is low no matter which way you slice it. No support for Dolby. Customer service.

You will not find a list of spec gimmicks with this little stunner, instead what you are purchasing is supreme engineering quality. When it comes to compact mini hifi's the sound quality is top of the group. The facade is impressively turned out, with the speakers (supplied by Mission by repackaged as Denon) in a champagne pine finish. The controls are at a minimum, whats on offer is slick and no-nonsense and reinforces the impression that the designers of this player knew what they were doing. One disappointment I found was the lack of internal surround-sound decoders to support the likes of Dolby, therefore pressing your video sound through this system is null and void, it's a strong system though not extravagant for an array of tweaking options and condition memories. Compilations of MP3 CDs can be played however, older versions of this system lacked this support. If you really like your bass and volume max'd audio distortion will become apparent, but it's low, I did find it particularly less at low signal levels to comparable machines. I friend recently purchased one of those 'Bose Wave Radio' jobbo's you see advertised on the back Sunday newspaper magazines, in comparison this system is "leaps and bounds" better than that Bose. And depending on where you buy from it's at least one hundred pounds lower. The Denon Customer Service is v. poor however, I have emailed on numerous occasions, tried to telephone and have been unsuccessful in getting a response to-date.

Large sound from a small space.
You will need to replace the speaker cable.

This was my first venture into the world of midi hifi systems, my wife was sick of my system of separates cluttering up the living room, after noticing this stereo was featured as a 'best buy' in 'Which' Magazine I quickly ordered it online. Costing a little under £300 I received it within three working days, I was advised by e-mail and the time matched exactly.

The main receiver is tiny in comparison to my old collection of cd player, tuner and amp - you will not have to check your available space because it will fit virtually anywhere! It comes with speaker cables, but you could really do with replacing these. Setting this stereo is simple, all you need to do is take this system out of the box and plug-in and play. No homework will need doing, the manual isn't confusing, even for a novice.

Once you get everything up and running this system will astound you. I am far from being a newcomer to hifi's, I have been a Hi-Fi enthusiast for a number of years, Denon completely overreached my expectations for clarity of sound and the richness of bass. Only at full volume will distortion become clear to even the less-refined musical ear.

The number midi hifi systems can boggle the mind, with most brands you cannot always be certain of the quality you will be getting. Be reassured that with Denon they will not let you down.
