Do not be put off by the looks, I know I was. On looks alone I much preferred many of the Roberts models, but friends, online review et al, all recommended the Pure Evoke. The combination of cheap pine wood and even more flimsy and cheap looking silver plastic was a real ascetic put off. In terms of retro styling the Roberts models were light years ahead and looked the business, the Evoke looked like a £15 jobbo from Goodmans. So it was with trepidation that I ordered one from the web. Taking it out of the box offered no conciliation, it looked just as cheap in the flesh, and at £89.99 I felt I'd made a mistake. Soon as I plugged it in things turned for the better, the blue back lit LCD screen was bright and certainly effective at displaying text at a distance, and the easy of use was astounding. I had quickly found all my favourite stations by name and added them to my preset, the signal strength was superb, and so was the sound produced by it's tiny speaker. I do not use batteries with it because of the cost, therefore I was glad it came with an adapter, at over three meter's long it means I can place the radio at any given location in a room. I never even read the manual. Yes I still hate the looks, but I am glad it wasn't a wasted purchase.
