The sole reason I purchased the GZ-MC500 was that the promise it
can produce 60 minutes of DVD-quality video. I needed it to produce
a multimedia training video for the sales staff of the company I
work for. At only £600 (soundandvisiononline.com) it was a
bargain as well. It's a handy size with all the functional buttons
being very well placed, and the flash is also excellent. A work
friend did have a few problems operating it as she was left handed.
Being right handed I did find it a little awkward when taking stills.
I liked the position of the buttons but when using the camcorder
the menus are not easy to navigate while in the 'shooting' position.
The GZ-MC500 also features a unique rotating grip design so it is
easy to hold, and allows you to pivot the lens for transition to
a high or low shooting angle. This certainly helped me find a stable
shooting position most of the time. It's a shame however that the
LCD is limited to rotating only 45 degrees. Finding the right resolution
to shoot is also a little tricky. I found the resolution generally
poor unless I had it re-sized to 320x240. When encoded at 320x240
the images look fantastic however. I upgraded to the GZ-MC500 from
a basic Panasonic DV-tape camcorder model. To be honest there are
still a few glitches in this new technology, and I am not sure it
was worth the money changing over.
