Having a nightmare trying to capture anything from my camcorder. I'm using hdmi/usb connected cables but the packaged editing program says the camcorder is offline, but its not. HELP!

Firstly I'd either buy yourself a new set of cables, I snagged my firewire to usb cables recently and I needed to replace them. If your low on cash then try and borrow some from a friend or neighbour. Otherwise it's got to be the camera or software. Maybe you could reinstall your software, or look into downloading a free one from the web. I have used http://www.videoforums.co.uk/ for asking any editing questions I needed answering. There are lots of guys there who post daily, and know their stuff for sure. I got a free version of http://www.magix.com/ with my JVC GZHD7, the shop keeper seemed in a generous mood :). You could try a trial version of that.

Hows the HV20 working otherwise?. It seems from what i've read to be producing great video footage. It's seems expensive on Amazon, do you or someone else know where its available cheaper?

That's the kind of error that drives me up the wall. Especially if the camcorder is new and I want to start uploading for footage right away. I'd check the driver installation, firewire cards can be prone to identification problems. My first impression would be a software rather than hardware snag.
