I've not used my MD player for quite some times, it's still hanging
around in the bottom of my cupboard. The introduction of the iPods
has made this player all but defunct. The size and weight cannot
compete with a nano for example, and usability cannot compete with
itunes, even though the MZ-N1 can copy songs from a PC it's a fiddly
affair. Understanding all the upload and play functions will take
a good weekend to boot, I was up and running within 30 minutes with
my pod. Back when I originally bought my MD player it was much better
than my CD player for portable play. Less bulky, didn't skip and
at that time recordable CD's were only just becoming widespread.
The main reason was an MD player was the only direct way to transfer
downloaded songs from your PC to a stand alone device, with a CD
player you would still require a 20 minutes period of burning a
CD. Also, a blank minidisc can be recorded over, at this time re-recordable
were not on the market for sale. An MD player is also lighter and
smaller than a portable CD player and can easily fit into a coat
or trouser pocket. It was also one of the first devices to have
a remote control halfway down the headphone wire to make it even
easier to operate. I am even sure if the Sony software used to burn
songs on to the minidisc will work with my new XP computer, I had
Windows 98 when I last used it and it was fairly difficult to use
back then. If your looking for a portable audio player in 2007 I'd
record the new range of flash media mp3 players.
