Sony's RDR-HXD710 is a well equipped DVD recorder with large storage
of 160GB (269 hours of recording) and a built-in Freeview tuner
which provides a selection of free-to-air digital programming like
BBC News 24. This is coupled to a chunky 160GB hard disk. It's also
a multi-format DVD player / recorder so a wide range of regional
dvd's will play on it. After trying it out the RDR-HXD710 recorder
really lives up to it's billing, it's a superb piece of kit. For
the £400 price bracket few other recorder's can match it,
with the integral Freeview box making it a great space saver as
well. The 160GB hard drive should mean most households never having
to worry about finding space for a recording. The recording quality
can only be described as first class. Probably the best function
the it features is being able to record a television programme onto
it's hard drive, while at the same time watching a dvd disc. It
also includes a electronic programme guide which means you can easily
view and record from the TV schedule, the clear layout and category
search makes the recording process fool proof. For the more technically
minded there are plenty of recording qualities to pick from. The
only bad bits were the hard disk being a tad noisy, and without
a card slot you cannot upgrade scrambled freeview channels. Overall,
this is another class leading product from Sony, excellent.
