Supreme quality for £455, it's one heck of an amazing machine
that will blow your mind. After first hearing the quality of sound
you will be shocked your SCDV290 hasn't cost over a grand, at £455
it is simply unmatch-able. I would class the system as just a home
cinema set, it's an all round audio and dvd / surround system. The
only criticism present day is the lack of latest tech features,
some machines now come with wireless speakers and a hardrive to
store your music and films. The Dolby 5.1 surround amplifier is
state of the art and the 5xDVD changer unit means plenty of storage,
if you can remember what discs are in the machine that is.

I tested quite a few mini stereos at my local currys superstore,
they have quite a good selection and the staff are helpful in letting
you try the various machines out. What made the SCDV290 stand out
was the sound, the music did not distort at high levels and there
was plenty of depth and bass adjustment with the graphic equalizer.
I have never been a fan of CD changers, where they can hold 3-10
discs usually. I had a denon mini-hifi that had a 3 disc changer
and it made a horrible racket when switching discs, was a real turnoff
from a well made machine. Noise of the mechanism is not an issue
with the Technics, but the changer is a little on the slow side
to function. I'd much prefer not to have it included, remembering
what discs are in the machine is a nightmare anywho. The surround
sound features and options are good, and with a five speaker setup
there are plenty of configurations at hand. With a sub-400 price
tag I am you will not be disappointed if you decide to take the
plunge.
