Creative Zen Stone 1GB

Technical Details: 1GB flash memory, dimensions - 53.67 x 35.34 x 12.82mm, 1 x Rechargeable Lithium Ion, weighs in at 18.3g, 3.5mm earphone jack, USB 2 port.

Features: Comes in black, white, lime green, blue, red, pink. Supports MP3, WMA, Audible.

Pros: Size and weight of this player is ideal for the gym, jogging and outdoor pursuits. Creative have raised the style stakes, with a funky little box that strikes of simplicity, quality and a solid build. Now priced around £19.95, which is a bargain compared to the iPod shuffle. Doubles as a hard drive.

Cons: Offers less battery life than a shuffle, but is cheaper also. Gave around five hours of constant use, though there are reports of up to 10 hours battery life for on-off use. The USB cable is short at 4 inches in length, which can make it awkward to connect to a PC. Whilst 1Gb of storage is impressive for the size and price of this player, it's still not a large capacity player.

Verdict: The stone makes for an ideal complementary portable system to a large capacity player.

Great sound, price, size, weight. Multi-color LED panel indicates charging and playback status
It will easily scratch if your do not handle it with care.

Downloading songs via Windows Media Player is fast, battery life could be better but is satisfactory. Worthwhile purchasing a better quality pair of earphones. Offers stonking value for money compared to a nano or shuffle. Simple the best bargain I have ever come across.

I originally owned a Creative Vision M. It's capable of playing videos, and has alot more memory than my stone. The problem is the size, which is big and far to heavy to carry everywhere. The stone is perfect for long journeys and trips to the gym. Playback on the device sounds as good as my Vision M. Most retailers usually promise that 1Gb of space will provide room for around 500 tracks. But this is at the specified settings, I download at a superior quality setting so the stone will only hold 250 to 300 of my files. It's also compatible with the MediaSource Organiser. Handle with care, it's dinky and liable to break easily imo.
