I was attracted to this system after reading an interesting article
about Philips new 'Wireless Music Centres (WMC)' and then checking
out all the specific at their UK site http://www.philips.co.uk.
The obvious attraction was the wireless aspect, in our living room
we have a separate hifi setup from Arcam/B&W, TV, Cinema set,
VHS, Xbox 360, all going into the same plug area. The mountain of
intertwined wires is a horror, headache and mess. So eradicating
just one device going into this was useful, as I loved the design
of WACS700 to boot I soon decided to have a look at my local independent
hifi centre. Immediately it appealed to me because it allowed access
to the music station from any room in a house, speakers being placed
anywhere you liked. And with a built in 40GB hard disc you can store
a whopping 750 CDs. This means your whole CD collection can be stored
away in a cupboard and saves even more space. This without doubt
is the future of hifi systems, and I suspect ever type of electrical
device. It does include copy protection so if you illegally downloaded
songs from the Internet you may have problems transferring them
to your Philips centre. Ideal for parties because you can have your
system playing in multi-rooms, and it include a follow me function
where it only plays music in the room your in with the controller.
Downsides for audiophiles?, built in speakers, sound quality isn't
ground breaking, no DAB radio and 40GB hard disk may not be enough
for some.
