Bose are planning to release a portable version of it's SoundDock
system. The portable version will come with an integrated carry
handle, a lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack, wall charger, black
or white facade and measure 6.75x12.1x4.1 inches. Bose believe that
their portable system will be the first to recharge an iPod whilst
not plugged into an AC.
The first Bose SoundDock was released in late 2004, this was at
a time when iPod-specific speakers were relatively isolated. Strong
sales have commended the risky strategy Bose took, a high quality,
simplified, attractive all-in-one iPod audio solution paid off.
Despite being priced at a premium rate the SoundDock has become
an international bestseller, forcing many competitors to jump on
the bandwagon and copy the formula.
The original SoundDock was priced at $299, what may shock and
turn off potential customers is the additional $100 pricetag of
the portable version. Totaling a whopping $399. Bose may find the
market place in 2007 a little more difficult to crack, there is
now a superb array of competitors like Tivoli iSongBook.
It's Bose so you can expect a hefty pricetag, however, the only
revolution is battery-powered portability. Will there be a large
customer base willing to pay an additional $100 for this sole criterion?
