Tesco have announced that over two hundred of it's stores will
begin selling their own-brand computer software. The software has
actually been developed by Formjet, and is only packaged to appear
as being developed by Tesco.
The range is large however, the software currently encompasses
printer and photographic editing, security and anti-virus, finance,
office applications and software to burn multimedia photos onto
printer paper or music, video onto DVD's.
The six titles also available for purchase at http://www.tescosoftware.com/,
all are priced at under £20, with four of them priced under
£10. Tesco are expecting to be selling around 100,000 units
per quarter. They had already sold 25,000 units over a six months
period during a test phase in selected stores.
The launch is aimed to coincide with the Tesco's annual back-to-school
promotion. b
Daniel Cook, buying representative of Tesco, said, Demand
is high home software equipment, we are delighted to launch a range
that is economic and has such proved a hit, demand is so high we
have ordered a print of more units to satisfy demand."
Graham OReilly, of Formjet
Innovations, has been quoted as saying: We first decided
with Tesco what software was required, Tesco decided to promote
the titles as their own brand, so in essence we are now working
as a department within the Tesco family.
Tesco and formjet are planning to work together on creating a larger
range of software titles, schools, colleges and pupils are believed
to be the target market.
Formjet has also announced they will be branding their software
for the Woolworths group as well.
