Apple iPod Shuffle 1GB

Technical Details: 1GB of flash memory, USB, Weighs 16g

Pros: Gets you on the iPod ladder for under £50. Looks, weight and size make it portable, the jog free skip playback makes it ideal for fitness freaks. Clip-on aids this, makes the shuffle practical for outdoor pursuits and journeys. Sound produced by the player and earbuds is surprisingly pleasing considering the price.

Cons: Lack of an LCD screen or panel makes navigation between files difficult. It only supports WAV, AAC, AIFF, Audible, MP3 formats. The sound produced is clear, but does lack a depth of bass available from more expensive players.

Verdict: It's expensive considering what on offers. A creative zen stone is less than half the price, has the same storage space, looks as good, and plays as well. Some people may consider it the ultimate in style over substance. If your desperate for an iPod, are on a budget, the sound and style of this little player possible make it worth the asking price.

Take it to the gym, clips on a shirt and sounds good.
Have to find tracks by memory, difficult to find the right one when you have 200+.

It's my first mp3 player, I'd been put off the original ipod's due to their price. I could not imagine myself using it enough to warrant spending over £100. I only desired an mp3 player for my trips to and from work on the bus. I've grown to love it so much I take it everywhere with me. The sound quality is amazing, it holds more than enough songs, I have still not listened to them. I've also dropped it on a few occasions which didn't perturb it, so durable as well.
